This board is not for me.
by Wafe inwhen i came to this board, i thought that it was for encouragement amoung people who had been treated badly by the wtbts, i did not understand that people were going to come here and bash god, his son and the bible.
i could understand some embitterment over religion but some of you people are down right insulting.
not to mention the fact that i have tried to contact others on the board and have had my messages ignored.. .

"Sadly many who have left the organization have been so devasted by their experiences in the Watchtower Society that they feel the need to reject God, Christ and the Bible. Perhaps, it is because they equated the Watchtower with their faith in God. In any case, they are wounded and hurting. And they lash out at those who they feel responsible.
It reminds me of the small child who, in anger, may say to parents "I hate you" or "you're not my parents." In time the anger may cool and the love may return. "
Yes, sure. That's the reason.
Wafe, if you are uncomfortable here, then perhaps taking a step back from the board would be useful. Having your long-held beliefs challenged can be painful. And yet, we are no longer jw's because we have wanted the kind of dissent that this board allows. Perhaps, you have confused your beliefs with who you really are. You are NOT your beliefs. Don't take the discussion here so personally. It's all just words.

"Friends - yeah, well, I find people confide in me an helluva lot (all those years' practice listening to people in the ministry, I guess) and I'm really really popular... but almost no-one really knows me!! not properly... they either don't know about my background or they don't understand it, so they really don't understand me - because my background as a JW was such an important (and long) part of my life and it has shaped me and I will never be rid of its effects entirely.... and it's quite lonely having this background and no-one you mix with on a daily basis really understands you."
I really hear you. Being a jw is such a unique experience that most people will not be able to relate to. It impacts your thinking processes, your view of the world and how you process emotionally. There are so many jw trigger words that can evoke a response within seconds, even before you're consciously aware of what has happened. So ya, it's hard to find people to connect with who would really understand this. That's why I'm happy for this board. So glad you've made your way here.

by Abandoned inok, now i know a bunch of you have to have seen this episode of the simpsons.

I LOVE that episode. My other favorite is "Thank God It's Doomsday" where Homer gets ready for the end of the world. My fave quote from this one:
Kent Brockman:(to camera) This is Kent Brockman reporting live from downtown Springfield where overweight doomsayer Homer Simpson is predicting the World will end....next Wednesday! Homer, when did you go from town drunk to mad monk?
Homer: Funny Story Kent, (grabs microphone) IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!! GOD LOVES YOU!! HE'S GOING TO KILL YOU!!
Sound familiar? ;)

Do YOU Think People Actually "Love" You? Are They Intimate Friends?
by minimus ini believe we all want to think that we are very much loved and respected.
when we were in the "truth", we used to say that we knew our brother or sister would die for us----if they had to.
but in reality who really loves us???

I can count the people who, I can say with confidence, truly love me, on two hands. I am blessed.

For women: your view of strip clubs
by Paralipomenon ini have heard two vastly differing viewpoints on this subject over the years.
regarding your significant other, would you care if they went to a strip club or not?
some examples: .

I went to a strip club (male/female) for the first time last fall with my bf and some friends. Didn't bother me. I actually enjoyed watching the females perform rather than the males. They were more entertaining; better routines.
Overall, strip clubs aren't my thing or my bf's either. But if he wanted to go, no problem. Our relationship is pretty open. As long as we're honest with each other, it's all good.

Abandonment
by reneeisorym inmost of the time i'm ok with the problem i'm about to discuss.
it just seems that occasionally it hurts me more than others.. for those of you who's family are all jws: it was hard to leave all of your family behind but for whatever reason, it made you happier to go than to stay.
after you left, did you ever get scared that those in your new life would abaondon you as well?

Yes I can relate. Being confronted with the impermanence of relationships, even those you've had for some time and that seem lasting, is a difficult thing.
My boyfriend and I left the org together. He is my best friend in the world and it scares me to think he and I may not always be together. I also fear him dying suddenly. He enjoys walking late at night and each time he leaves the house, a wave of panic washes over me, thinking he may not return. It's irrational but I think it's quite understandable considering the amount of loss we've experienced in leaving the org. I hope that in time, this will lessen, because the reality is, nothing is permanent and shit happens.
